Health Fairs
A health fair is an event where organizations have an opportunity to disseminate health information to the public at booths and/or to provide health screenings. Health fairs are usually co-sponsored by groups, including hospitals, churches, sororities, and community organizations. They may last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. MHC Healthcare routinely participated in health fairs across the Tucson/Marana area. The vent provides and opportunity to introduce services and make a connection with participants “on their own initiative.” Health fairs often present the opportunity for patients to learn more about medical conditions, prevention and treatment. In addition, members of the community have a venue to explore how the vast network of services are inter-related and available to serve their needs at many stages in their life. A young family may be in search of information about pre-natal care and child rearing where a older empty-nester individuals may be considering home care options and/or how to best manage a chronic illness. Often participants may receive blood pressure screenings, eye exams, and health information along with free promotional items provided by the participating organizations. Health Fairs are an integral component of the community health center outreach initiatives and are an important venue in bringing information and health literacy to the underserved.
